Brief

Peter Kerstens is Co-Chair of the Fintech Task Force and Adviser to the Director for investment and company reporting at the European Commission's DG for Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union, focusing on technology transformation and security questions. He is a career official with extensive experience in EU policy and legislation in a range of areas. Prior to his current position, he worked on international financial services regulation, equivalence and financial sector sanctions. From 2008 until 2013 he was Finance Counsellor at the EU Delegation to the USA in Washington DC. Prior to his posting to Washington DC, Mr. Kerstens was a Member of Internal Market and Services Commissioner Charlie McCreevy's Private Office where he was responsible for services policy and institutional relations. From 2001 until 2004, he was a Member of the Private Office of Health and Consumer Protection Commissioner David Byrne, covering institutional relations for the health and consumer protection portfolio and advising the Commissioner on competition policy, justice and home affairs and economic and monetary policy. Mr. Kerstens joined the European Commission in 1996 and also held positions in the Directorate-General for Enterprise and the Directorate-General for Health and Consumer Protection. Prior to joining the European Commission, he worked as a public affairs consultant in Brussels advising major financial services and direct marketing companies on EU affairs. Mr. Kerstens holds a magna cum laude Master degree in European affairs from the College of Europe in Bruges and a magna cum laude Master degree in political science from the University of Leuven, Belgium. He is a Dutch national.
